Day 2

The River Set

A river that is born on the Northern slope of the Serra de la Llena close to the hermitage of St Miquel de la Tosca between the summits of La Tossa and La Abella.

The river runs for 55 Km towards the the River Segre, passing through the village of Cervia de les Garrigues and the abandoned village of Les Besses before entering a series of valleys and gorges and heading towards l’Albages and el Cogul, famous for its prehistoric rock art and part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where it opens up onto the plains and helps to irrigate a series of orchards before joining the river Segre.

We’ll have a picnic lunch on route and when we reach the end point, will have vehicle transfer back to Vilanova de Prades for a well deserved drink before dinner.

Day 3
Day 3

The Montsant

Born close to the village of Vilanova at a height of 1200 metres, the Montsant River runs for 60 Km into and through the Montsant Natural Park, a more technical and wilder route than yesterday passing through a mixture of deciduous and evergreen forest, gorges and singletrack and with spectacular mountain scenery, this route takes us through the Natural Park towards the world famous Margalef climbing area and on into the DOQ Priorat wine region, where the river helps to irrigate the vines in this harsh land.

As yesterday, we’ll have a picnic lunch on route and when we reach the end point, will have vehicle transfer back to Vilanova de Prades for a well deserved drink before dinner.

Day 4
Day 4

Singletrack in the Poblet paradise

The Poblet Natural Park has some of the best singletrack that can be found anywhere in Spain, largely undiscovered and ridden only by those in the know, today will be your chance to have some fun and test your technical limits.

We’ll head up to the highest point in the Prades Mountains, the Tossal de la Baltasanna and spend the morning riding down a couple of long downhill routes towards the Poblet Monastery before heading back to Vilanova for lunch and a relaxing afternoon in the heated pool.

Lunch and dinner at the resort.

Day 5
Day 5

The Francoli

Our final river and longest of the three river routes, today you will be riding for 4 or 5 hours, starting at the source of the Francoli and heading down towards Tarragona on the coast.

The river is born in the village of l’Espluga de Francoli, passes through the Riba Gorge and onto the plains of Tarragona where it discharges into the Mediterranean. The river has a total length of 85 Km, our route covers 55 Km of this and passes through the Medieval walled town of Montblanc, from where, for the Catalans, the legend of Sant Jordi (St George) and the dragon was born.

There is an 11Km stretch through the Riba Gorge that has technical downhill and where, during the industrial revolution a paper and textile industry was born. Once on the plains of Tarragona, the landscape changes into one of Olive and Hazel groves, for which the river is a lifeline.

We’ll have a picnic lunch en-route and at the end of the day a vehicle transfer back to Vilanova for a celebratory final dinner and presentation.
