Cambrils Road Cycling

Cambrils is a destination that specialises in cycling tourism. Located on the Costa Daurada, just south of Tarragona, 20 minutes from the gateway airport of Reus and just 1 hour from the cosmopolitan capital of Catalonia, Barcelona.

Originally a fishing village, Cambrils still retains all of its charm with narrow cobbled streets, the traditional fishing port where you can see the fisherman repairing their nets by hand and the more up market marina with harbourside cafes and bistros.

Cambrils is the gateway to the Mountains of the Costa Daurada, one of the best road cycling destinations in Southern Europe with over 2000Km of perfectly surfaced, traffic free secondary roads passing through an incredible landscape of forest, stark limestone escarpments, vineyards and olive groves.

This tour is fully guided, 5 days of incredible cycling with professional, English speaking cycling guides and a support vehicle with refreshments and spare parts. Available all year round and with a choice of 3 high quality accommodations, each of which has a different character, but chosen for their cycling specific facilities.

Day 2
Day 2

The first day of guided riding - around 90Km with 1350 metres of positive.

Depending on your accommodation the guides will collect you and take you to the departure point every day, or meet you at the departure point (which will be one of the three hotels).

On this first day, those of you that have hired road bikes will have a bike fit before departure, everybody will receive a pre-ride briefing with an overview of the day, an introduction to riding on the Costa Daurada and some important road safety tips.

Today is designed so that the guides can get to know you and vice versa, and assess the riding level of the group to set the pace for the rest of the week.

Setting out from Cambrils we will head towards the Riudecanyes reservoir and our first climb of the day up to the Coll de Teixeta, a beautiful, steady and twisty ascent with an average gradient of around 5%, from the pass we'll head into the Priorat region through Porrera followed by a short climb and onto Falset.

A nice long steady ascent out of Falset towards Colldejou before enjoying a 20Km descent back to the coast.

All rides will finish at around 2.30 pm to give you time for lunch and a rest.

Evening dinner is included at the hotel.

Day 3
Day 3

Todays ride is more challenging at 122 Km and with 2400 metres of positive gain.

We’ll head out of Cambrils towards the Coll de Alforja, following the old Roman road through the villages of Les Borges and Alforja, before climbing up to the pass from where we have great views of the coast behind us and the Montsant mountain to our front.

Descending down into the Priorat, we skirt the edge of the Montsant Natural Park, through the village of Cornudella de Montsant and onto a challenging climb to the village of Siurana, a climb that has ramps of up to 16% but is well worth the effort when you see the views, the village and the castle at the top.

After a technical descent we’ll take a rolling road through the national park, with the Serra Major above us and vineyards below us until we reach the monastery of Escaladei, from here into the heart of the DOQ Priorat wine country where another climb awaits us before we start our long and very enjoyable descent back down towards the coast.

Day 4
Day 4

Slightly easier day than yesterday, todays ride will be around 90 Km with 1400 metres positive.

We'll loop out of Cambrils through the Olive and Hazlenut groves on mostly rolling terrain until we get within sight of the Serra de Llaberia, an area of outstanding natural beauty and protected as a site of special natural interest by the Catalan government.

We'll climb up to the abandoned village of Llaberia and then continue our loop through the Baix camp and back towards the coast.

The final stretch of todays ride will be coastal.

Day 6
Day 6

Todays ride is the queen stage, around 115 Km with 2000 metres of climbing.

From leaving Cambrils we head directly inland, gradually gaining height as we go, until we reach the village of Villaplana, this where you need to make sure the STRAVA is running and prepare for a 10.2Km 6% average climb to the Coll de Llebres, also known as La Mussara or on your strava as the Polar KOM La Mussara, this climb features in all of the pro teams training camps and is the highlight of the Polar Gran Fondo La Mussara (look in our events section for more details).

Rest and recuperate energy when we hit just over 1000 metres and then it is a steady circuit through the Prades Mountains and back in towards the Montsant, Coll de Alforja and a long steady descent back to the coast.

The camera is a must take today, this is a ride that you will want to remember for a long time.

Day 7
Day 7

Final ride of the week and a favourite of the guides as it follows the route of a local sportive. Distance of 122 Km with 2000 metres positive.

This a nice sawtooth ride to finish the week covering some of the areas iconic climbs.

When we get to resort, enjoy a farewell cocktail before the final dinner.
