Challenge Madrid, a race to enjoy the city in all respects

On September 23, Madrid will live a new edition of the Challenge Madrid. In addition, this year, the race will be the European Long Distance Triathlon Championship. It's not just a whichever championship, with the presence of some of the best European and Spanish triathletes in an incomparable setting, between the nature of Buitrago de Lozoya and the main center of Madrid.

The race will be starts at 75 kilometers from Madrid, in the forested area of Buitrago de Lozoy. Is one the most charming town of the Community of Madrid. Located in the Lozoya Valley and in the Sierra Norte, will be the setting for the starts of the Challenge Madrid with swimming. The distance to be covered the triathletes in the Riosequillo reservoir will be 3,800 meters.

 

In this space, will be mounted the T1, the transition zone where will be start the bicycle race. This one, of 171 kilometers of distance, recovers marvellous spaces of the Madrilenian mountain, as well as the famous return to the mountain pass with ascents to Canencia, Morcuera and Cotos. Specifically, it will leave from the pools of Canal de Isabel II in Buitrago de Lozoya and will pass through Villavieja de Lozoya (km 6); San Mames (km 9.9); Choker (km 13.7); Canencia town (km 22.8); Puerto de Canencia (km 32.3); Miraflores de Sierra (km 38.4); Puerto de Morcuera (km 49.1); Rascafria (km 63.4); Puerto de Cotos (Km 79.9); Puerto de Navacerrada (km 86.4); Ventorrillo Fountain; El Escorial; Valdemorillo and Villanueva de la Cañada, to enter Madrid by the M-508 and crossing the Casa de Campo until you reach the explanada del Rey. Here, will be mounted the T2, where will take place the marathon race.

 

In this last test of the Challenge Madrid, the triathletes will dot it 42 kilometers and 195 meters. The route is 4 laps and 2 transitions and almost the entire race runs through 'Madrid Río'. Towards the end, in the last transition, the race will ascent the Costa de la Vega to join the Calle Mayor and enter the Puerta del Sol to get to the 'Km 0', that will be the end.

 

The Challenge Madrid has various modes of participation. The first one is the Long Distance Challenge, which is the long distance scoring test for the European Championship. The competition can also be done by relays (Team Relays), formed by 2 or 3 components. The organization also offers the World Corporate Cup, to take a test by teams formed by members of companies.

For the lovers swimming, the Challenge Madrid offers the possibility of the compete the Sierra Norte Swim Challenge, in the natural pools of the Riosequillo reservoir in Buitrago de Lozoya. The distances to be covered by the swimmers will be 1,900 and 3,800 meters. In the cycling section, the organization celebrates the 180-km Gran Fondo, one of the novelties of this year.

Finally, Challenge Madrid has organized the Fun Run, a 4-kilometer race to enjoy with family or friends, as well as the municipalities of the northern highlands of Madrid; and the Junior Run Challenge, a race that will have several distances for the youngsters.

Undoubtedly, it's a sporting event that highlight for the charms of this landscapes, with a route that puts the participants to the limit. More than 300 volunteers, and 200 members of the public security, will ensure the good development of one of the 10 best competitions in the world.

The Novotel Madrid Center is the official hotel of the Challenge Madrid 2018. It's a 4 * accommodation that has new facilities and is next to the barrio de Salamanca. In addition, it offers many facilities to athletes, such the possibility of having breakfast as of 3:30 am, before the race, with a wide selection of special foods for the athletes.
