Challenge Madrid 2019 and its spectacular route

As we said in previous posts, Challenge Madrid 2019 is a different triathlon, for the beauty of swimming and pedaling in the Sierra Madrileña and for the sensation of reaching the finish line located at the Puerta del Sol. Today we dedicate our entrance to the participants in the competition, with all the information of the race and the routes. It also goes to those who are still thinking about it. If so, do not hesitate and register because you will surely enjoy it, and much.

At 79 Kilometers from the capital, between the mountains of Gredos and Guadarrama, separated by the depression of the river Alberche, is one of the most charming tourist attractions in Madrid, San Martin de Valdeiglesias.

LONG DISTANCE MODALITY

Swimming (3,8 Km)

Swimming will take place on the Pantano de San Juan (Pelayos de la Presa). The distance to be covered by the triathletes in the Pantano de San Juan will be 3.800 meters. In this place the T1 will be set up, place from where the bicycle race will come out.

Cycling (180 Km)

The bike race will be 180 km and will go through the Sierra Oeste, where the mountainous terrain predominates, giving way to other lower areas through which the Alberche and Perales rivers flow. The variety of landscapes, as well as the relief and the vegetal species that can be observed, are very valuable since this region runs between 500 and 1500 meters of altitude.

The first part of the bicycle circuit runs between the last foothills of the Sierra del Guadarrama and the first elevations of the Sierra de Gredos, in the extreme southwest of the region. The predominant vegetation in this region are coniferous forests, whose most prominent species is the stone pine. On its slopes also grow oaks, cork oaks, junipers, melojos and chestnuts, forming a typical spot of the Mediterranean forest.

The second part will go to Madrid passing through different towns until arriving at the Paseo de la Casa de Campo in Pozuelo de Alarcón where the T2 (transition place) will be located from where the Marathon race will start.
